Nokia N82 : Review

I got rid of my first gen iPhone last month due to the lack of a decent camera really bugging me
I know I should be using a “proper camera” instead of my phone, which I do have, but most of the photos I take are spur-of-the-moment things on nights out or at shows etc..
The iPhone camera was absolutely shocking - and the lack of flash meant anything other than brilliant day light produced an awful photo

Other things bugged me too - mates sending me picture messages I couldnt see, no copy+paste, the way the iPod part of the phone just ignored compilation tags and put all compilation artists into the main artists list (argghhhh!)

So I took advantage of the price people were paying for unlocked iPhones and got rid
In a rush to get a replacement I just picked whatever seemed to be a high spec nokia (as I dont mind the S60 software) with a GOOD camera

This is where the N82 shines - 5mp camera with a carl zeiss lens and a proper xenon flash rather than the led’s other camera phones use
The photo’s I have taken with it are absolutely superb - nearly to the quality of my digital camera

The music player on it is shite.. it was shite on the N95 8GB I had and nothing has changed. Doesnt handle compilations properly, and is just dog slow. But I have an 80gb iPod classic so i dont use my phone for music

Call quality is very clear, its easy to use, its not locked up on me at all yet. The battery life is shocking if you use wifi (which by the way just doesnt want to work with my BT homehub *sigh*)

However there is one MASSIVE downside to this phone

The screen.. its soft as cheese. The phone slid off my seat this morning onto the car floor - when I retrieved it when I got to work it is now absolutely covered in scratches - really really deep scratches all over the screen

The same thing happened with my old iPhone and it didnt have a mark on it
I cant help but think that for the £270 I paid for this phone, it should be a bit better made :(

I’d give it a 7/10

Modern families

Why is it that todays families think the best way to bring up a kid is to drive them home at 4pm from school, stick them on a pushbike and then lock the door - leaving them to cycle up and down the street - and more importantly leaving them to sit in the tunnel which runs UNDER my front room, and shout about while I’m trying to work?

What happened to actual parenting. I don’t remember my parents throwing me out on the street to cycle around dodging cars as people come home from work.. until 7pm.. then stuffing some food in me and sending me to bed

If people don’t want to be lumbered with kids - why have them in the first place?
I hate kids, cant stand them, they make my blood boil after about an hour… so I’ve never had any.. wasn’t a difficult choice.

What do these parents do while there kids are cycling about as mobile targets for my bonnet? Well one of them seems to enjoy thrashing a stupid remote control car up and down past my house, obviously failing to realise he’s actually not 8 anymore. The other one sits and has a fag and listens to a bit of hardcore out his rover sound system so loud that my windows shake in the house.

I pray for winter when its too cold for these kids to play outside, before they have to watch me beat their dad to death with a 12″ subwoofer freshly ripped from the boot of a rover!
